MASSAGE THERAPY

Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) in British Columbia are trained to: evaluate your health needs; provide an assessment of your specific soft tissue or musculoskeletal condition; predict the likelihood and/or timeline of your recovery; provide active (intense) or passive (gentle) hands on therapy; and through research, provide evidence-based patient education and remedial exercises.

Sherri Muir, RMT

Sherri is a graduate of The West Coast Collage of Massage Therapy. Her clinical training there included – in addition to a diversity of massage techniques and theories - Anatomy and Physiology, Orthopedic assessment, and Kinesiology.

Since entering practice in 1996, Sherri has complemented her training with further studies in yoga, pilates, pregnancy massage, myofascial release, visceral manipulation, sports rehabilitation and osteopathic techniques. Through careful attention during her years of practice, she has been able to create a personal style which blends her experience in sports and movement with her deep knowledge of the human body.

Treatments with Sherri reflect her deep understanding that the body’s structure is wholly interconnected, and is dynamically formed in the balance between tension and compression. Both improper movement and immobility often affect the body as a whole, creating postural and muscle imbalances which often lead to joint dysfunction and pain. Fortunately, through proper assessment, massage therapy treatment and patient education, the body can begin to unlock, unwind, and heal itself – and Sherri is a skilled facilitator of this healing process

Outside the treatment room, Sherri has a passion for sport in the outdoors. She enjoys exploring her community on bikes and skis, or with her climbing shoes...

Melissa has worked with a variety of athletes both amateur and professional providing massage therapy that supported treatment & recovery of various sports-related injuries. She has participated in many sports herself and understands the training, muscle imbalances and injuries that can happen, having been through many of them herself!

Melissa also has further training & education in the area of women’s health, in treating pregnancy, post-partum, post-caesarean, and teaches parents how to massage their babies. Being an educator herself, she believes education is a lifelong process and continues to take courses to add to her practice.

She has been living in Squamish for 3 years and loving all that it has to offer – especially the beautiful outdoors.
